Timberline Lodge sits high on the slopes of an 11,239-foot volcano in Oregon’s Mount Hood Territory. Outside the rustic stone and wood lodge, 41 ski trails traverse 1,650 acres of skiable terrain with 3,690 feet of vertical drop in winter and 2,616 vertical feet of skiable terrain in summer—the most vertical feet of ski terrain in the Pacific Northwest. Inside, visitors stay in historically-furnished rooms and relax in the lodges soaring head house, warmed by an enormous, 92-foot-tall stone fireplace.

This Art and Architecture tour of Timberline Lodge is one of two app tours of the lodge. It tells of its hand-built construction during the Great Depression, using local wood, stone and iron. Images showcase the historic New Deal art and rustic Cascadian architecture that make Timberline one of Oregon’s most-visited and beloved tourist attractions and a classic American lodge.

Dedicated by President Franklin Roosevelt in 1937, Timberline Lodge was designated a National Landmark in 1977. Come inside and enjoy an icon of handcraft that has been serving its owners, the people of the United States for 75 years. Afterwards, take the Craft and Restoration Tour and learn more about this American treasure
